The country’s leading carmaker hasn’t launched any brand-new product for a very long time. Of course, with the BS-VI update, all the Maruti Suzuki models were updated, and the Vitara Brezza even received a facelift update, but there have been no generational upgrades in Maruti Suzuki’s line-up in the country for a very long time.
That said, even the Maruti Suzuki Dzire – which is now in its third-generation – also received a facelift update earlier this year. However, it was a very minor update and few would have noticed the differences in the exterior and interior of the compact sedan. Same was the case with the Ignis. Then there was the S-Cross, which made a transition from diesel power to petrol power, only had this change under its bonnet, meaning the exterior and interior remained untouched.
The most recent car that underwent a generational upgrade in the maker’s portfolio was the WagonR, which was launched earlier last year. And thereafter, we also saw the maker launch two brand-new models like the S-Presso and XL6 last year.
But the real question is, what is coming next in the homegrown manufacturer’s product line-up. So, here’s the answer.
1. Maruti Suzuki Celerio
The Celerio is the most dated model in the carmaker’s line-up. After all, it is the only car in the line-up to not feature a touchscreen infotainment system, even in its top-spec trim. Apart from the BS-VI update, the Celerio was last updated with a mild facelift in 2017, which only consisted of a few subtle tweaks to the inside and outside of the small hatchback. While we do know that Maruti Suzuki cars is testing the new second-generation Celerio, there’s only little we know about what’s coming to the small hatchback. Expect a whole new look on the outside and major updates to the interior including its equipment.
2. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
While, on its own, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz still looks a fairly new model, thanks to the major exterior design change it received with the 2018 update, the Ciaz now looks a bit too long in the tooth courtesy of every other manufacturer updating its mid-size sedan in 2020. The current model of the Ciaz made its debut in 2014 and, as said above, received a facelift in 2018. This means that the mid-size sedan from Maruti is now due for an update.
3. Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sierra
The Jimny has been an excellent off-roader – a true SUV, perhaps – and one of the most popular cars Suzuki sells in the global market. Maruti Suzuki showcased the Jimny Sierra earlier this year at the Auto Expo 2020 and told us, if the customer response is overwhelming, it would consider launching it in the Indian market. However, taking into consideration the early success of the next-gen Mahindra Thar, Maruti Suzuki might just launch its Jimny in the Indian market to give some sleepless nights to Mahindra.
4. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
The Baleno – yes, the premium hatchback and not the decade-old sedan – was first launched in its hatchback avatar all the way back in 2015. It was the first hatchback to feature Apple Carplay, which has proven to be a more necessary feature in today’s day and age than most have anticipated. In early 2019, Maruti Suzuki Baleno received a minor facelift update with more features and better looks. However, considering that the hatchback has now started to show its age, there might be a generational upgrade for the Baleno in the pipeline, perhaps to be announced sometime next year.
5. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Unlike all the models mentioned above, the Maruti Suzuki Swift is a fairly new model. After all, it did receive a generational upgrade in 2018. But we do know that Maruti Suzuki is planning to give the Swift an early facelift update, which might be as small as the one we’ve witnessed with the Dzire earlier this year. Like the Dzire, it might also get a few extra features like an updated MID along with cruise control and, of course, a few aesthetic modifications to the exterior. We expect to see Maruti Suzuki roll out this update by the end of next year. Also, grab the latest info on the upcoming cars, only at autoX.
